Transportation

Raleigh Durham International

Cary has all the right connections. The Raleigh-Durham International Airport brings the world to Cary's doorstep - and it takes Cary residents and goods around the globe. RDU supports nearly 300 flights a day, including non-stop flights to Europe, Mexico, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. In all, the airport sees about 5 million boardings a year. The airport is served by industry giants like American Airlines, Midway, US Air, United, Southwest, Northwest, TWA and Continental, along with a number of commuters. Air freight service is available from several major carriers, and a new $25 million cargo center that opened in 1994 has greatly increased capacity. For the busy air traveler, RDU's statistics are reassuring: the airport consistently ranks among the top five in the country for on-time arrivals and departures.

A Variety of Connections

By rail, Cary is served by Amtrak, CSX and Norfolk-Southern. Piggyback service is available in Raleigh. And two deep sea ports, at Morehead City and Wilmington, are about two hours away. Cary's link to major highways - Interstate 40, U.S. 1, and U.S. 64 - put it within two days trucking days of 60 percent of the nation's industrial base. To get there, over 300 motor freight carriers and 40 terminals are located in the Triangle.

Variety Vacationland

North Carolina earned its Variety Vacationland nickname for good reason. Just explore the history of Roanoke Island, sun on exquisite North Carolina beaches, take in the spectacular fall foliage and winter skiing of North Carolina mountains, and discover some of the engaging spots in between. Cary is within a few hours drive of most of it. And as far as interstates go, the Triangle stretch of I-40 is simply the prettiest this side of the Great Smoky Mountains. Gentle rolling hills and woods, a profusion of carefully planted wildflowers, and development that does not encroach too close provide a strikingly pastoral drive in the midst of a booming metropolitan area.

Triangle Transit Authority

The Triangle Transit Authority offers rides to workers who would rather enjoy the view than drive. The shuttle service it provides has connections all over the Triangle. In all, six major arteries bring the Triangle region together even as it connects to the rest of the country. And Cary is strategically located in the heart of it all.
