The Best of Care
Medical and Wellness Services in Cary
Who
do you turn to when the kids get the flu? When you
need prenatal care? In an emergency? For many families,
a top priority when choosing a place to live and
work is easy access to high quality medical services.
If you live in Cary, you have your choice of state-of-the-art
facilities and esteemed professionals. Triangle
institutions rank among the nation's best when it
comes to health care, with some of the foremost
medical experts and programs in the country located
right here. Major health care providers Duke University
Medical Center and UNC Hospitals consistently finish
high on US News and World Report's list of America's
best hospitals. Partnerships between these two systems
and the other medical centers in the area ensure
that Triangle residents receive the best health
care that modern medicine offers.
Cary
is home to Western Wake Medical Center (WWMC), which
offers comprehensive care, including outpatient
services such as radiology, rehab, and diagnostic
testing. Located at the corner of Kildaire Farm
and Tryon Roads, WWMC's unique architectural design
(a medical "mall", with a spacious central
atrium) provides easy access to registration and
outpatient services. The hospital provides 24-hour
emergency services and intensive care, and the hospital
is one of top three heart centers in North Carolina.
Expert staff provide services in the areas of orthopedics,
high-risk pregnancies, critically ill babies, and
physical rehabilitation. You will also find staff
at various western Wake County community events
offering health screenings and workshops.
An
80-bed facility when it opened its doors in 1991,
WWMC now boasts over 100 beds. Almost every department
has increased in size to meet the needs of one of
the fastest growing areas of the country. By the
summer of 2002, Western Wake will have spent over
$70 million on new facilities and doubled its square
footage. The Women's Pavilion and Birthplace has
already expanded to include more private suites
and an education and conference center, among other
features. A surgical services expansion to be completed
this summer will add 107,000 square feet of space
and renovate an additional 25,000 square feet. The
number of operating rooms, Post-Anesthesia Care
Units, and outpatient prep/recovery spaces will
all increase significantly, making having surgery
easier and more convenient for Cary residents.
Rex
Healthcare expanded into Cary in 1997 with a 30,000-square-foot
comprehensive wellness center. Today Rex Healthcare
of Cary occupies 63,000 square feet with half of
the space devoted to the Rex Wellness Center and
the other half to a variety of services, including
Rex Urgent Care of Cary. In addition to quality
care for sudden illness and accidents, the seven-day
urgent care facility provides drug screening and
physicals. On-site radiology and lab services include
screening and mammography at Rex Breast Care Center.
Also located on the campus at the corner of Cary
Parkway and Lake Pine are family practice and pediatrics,
as well as sports medicine, physical therapy, and
pharmacy services. Starting in mid-June of this
year, the hospital will add a three-story facility
with four outpatient operating rooms on the first
floor, and surgeon and physical practices on the
other two floors. The facility will open in 2003.
The
Rex Wellness Center is a medically supervised exercise
facility equipped with indoor track and pool, aerobics
room, sauna, whirlpool, healthy snack bar, and child
care. You'll enjoy a friendly environment where
you can be comfortable regardless of your current
fitness level. Members can take advantage of nutrition
counseling and assessment, weigh management and
support groups, relaxation and stress management,
smoking cessation,
massage, Tai chi, Yoga, Pilates, personal training,
and more! In addition to advanced fitness equipment
and comprehensive health education, the center offers
rehab services specifically designed to help you
return to the activities you enjoy and reach your
desired level of fitness. In order to maximize the
benefits of your workout, the staff provides you
with a complete health assessment before you begin.
Health screenings and specialized training are then
available to help you stay in touch with your health
and level of fitness on a regular basis.
Healthcare
is one area of expertise where no less than the
best can be accepted, and Cary is located within
minutes of several of the best hospitals and medical
facilities in the nation. The Triangle is not only
rich in medical resources, it's rich in resources
designed to help consumers make good medical choices.
